How it works
- Area in square inches = length × width × 144.
- Divide by one tile's area (tile width × length in inches).
- Add 10% waste (15% for diagonal layouts or small rooms) and round up.
Example: A 10 × 8 ft floor with 12 × 12 in tiles and 10% waste needs 88 tiles.
Frequently asked questions

10% for straight layouts, 15% for diagonal, herringbone or rooms with many cuts.
Does grout width matter?
Only slightly for large tiles; it matters more for mosaics. The waste allowance covers it.
